For a refreshing change of pace, the latest zombie driven virus campaign tries to scare you into believing you illicit online activities have been noticed by the authorities. This email and virus has actually been around the block before, but it’s back and it does stand out from the crowd:

Your internet access is going to get suspended
The Internet Service Provider Consorcium was made to protect the rights of software authors, artists. We conduct regular wiretapping on our networks, to monitor criminal acts.
We are aware of your illegal activities on the internet wich were originating from.You can check the report of your activities in the past 6 month that we have attached. We strongly advise you to stop your activities regarding the illegal downloading of copyrighted material of your internet access will be suspended.

Of course there is no such “Consortium” and they really should spell check these frauds before sending them.
Still, the clever part of this campaign is that it alludes to having monitored/caught the recipient in illicit Internet activity. The potential fear of being caught for downloading those MP3 files a couple of years ago might be just enough to trick more users into launching the virus attachment than might fall for other common ploys.
The email comes with two attachments:
- report.exe
- report.zip
Executing either of these will infect your system, effectively adding your computer to the existing army of spam spewing zombies.
The volume of these is picking up over the last few days and can be expected, based on typical patterns, to last a week or two from now.
