USAA.Web.Services@customermail.usaa.com – Phishing Frauds

We’re currently seeing a significant volume of bogus USAA Phishing fraud emails that all claim to come from “USAA.Web.Services@customermail.usaa.com.”

These messages are of course spoofed, actually originating from infected and compromised personal computers around the globe, operating as part of larger zombie bot-nets.

While the fake sending address is consistent, subject line content is varied, such as:

USAA: notification (current date stamp)
USAA customer service: security alert (current date stamp)
USAA customer service: security issues (message ref:  number)
USAA: urgent security notification
Urgent notification from customer service

Many other such subject lines also include current date stamps or random and false message references within the subject in an attempt to avoid spam filtering and to also appear more legitimate to end users.

In each case, the emails themselves will contain fairly accurate representations of actual USAA messages, such as:

However, the links within the emails have been engineered to direct visitors to a wide variety of bogus impostor sites designed to capture legitimate username and passwords from unsuspecting account holders.
