You don’t have to speak French to spot this one as fraud. It has a fake form to help you supply your personal information and an empty “To:” field. It also mentions a large sum of money in US Dollars (50,000,00 $ US, à 60,000,000,00 $ USD). Naming the sum in United Statues Dollars seems to be fairly common in non-English fraud messages.

Which more or less says “I found your email address on the Internet”. Why do they think telling us they picked us at random makes the fraud more believable?
Here’s another clue: USD$ 18,500,000.00 is pretty unlikely to occur in a legitimate email.

These are just a couple of examples culled from the never ending stream of fraud, just to show that email con-men work in all languages.
Politically speaking, email fraud seems to be a kind of pro-active foreign aid system. For the most part “third world” countries target “first world” countries so the primary languages are English, French, German and presumably Japanese (so far we haven’t been able to capture an example in Kanji) . Who knows, maybe email fraud will ultimately level the economic disparities between the G8 and the rest of the world.
