While spam volumes may be down, the Phishing fraud’s continue in high volume with Craigslist.org users being highly favored targets.
Look for these spam emails to trap unsuspecting users:
Subject: Account Update Notice
From: ”craigslist” <help@craigslist.org>
While they spoof “help@craigslist.org” as the sending address, most that we’ve reviewed have come from various hijacked Earthlink accouts:
from elasmtp-banded.atl.sa.earthlink.net ([209.86.89.70])
from elasmtp-scoter.atl.sa.earthlink.net ([209.86.89.67])
Here’s a complete copy of one of these “Account Update Notice” frauds:

More spam claiming to be from Wells Fargo headed toward mailboxes as:
Subject: Wells Fargo Online Fraud Prevention.
From: “Wells Fargo Online”<wellsfargo@wellsconnect.wellsfargo.com>
When in reality the sending address is spoofed and the email is actually originating from Yahoo’s mail servers:
nm28-vm1.bullet.mail.ac4.yahoo.com ([98.139.52.247])
As is common for such Phishing frauds, the email warns you

Tumblr’s site (http://www.tumblr.com/about) says:
Tumblr lets you effortlessly share anything.
And apparently that means the sharing of copious amounts of unregulated spam email as well.
More specifically, we’re still seeing an ongoing campaign of bogus “work at home” scams perpetrated by fake sending links to bogus “news” articles used to ensnare the more gullible of Internet participants.

There’s a renewed effort from spammers trying to hijack legitimate Craigslist.org accounts.
One version currently in distribution arrives:
Subject: flagged & removed: 36984099
From: “Craigslist” <no-reply@craigsIst.org>
To further add the appearance of legitimacy and to help evade spam filtering systems the number at the end of the subject line is randomized.

Were seeing a fair amount of bogus Apple Store Order Notification spam emails that are sufficiently confusing to end users that they are frequently resending these to themselves after our filtering initially blocks them.
The emails present themselves as:
Subject: ID:921-818692 Apple Store Order Notification
From: “Apple Store” <Store@apple.com>
The “Order ID Number” for each spam can be random, which helps these spam emails to appear legitimate and also to help evade many spam filters.
The sending address is spoofed, and the emails themselves are quite simple:

A new version of an old virus fraud is circulating with a spoofed Microsoft address:
Subject: Critical security patch released!
From: Microsoft Corp. <windowsupdate@microsoft.com>
What’s clever and also amusing about this is it pretends to address a recent Microsoft update that addresses a different kind of spoofing:

You have to give spammers some credit for creativity, especially when they can manage to get strangers to pay for free software.
In-boxes are seeing more such spam for exactly this type of pitch:
Subject: Action Required : Download New Acrobat PDF Reader For Your Windows
From: Adobe Systems Incorporated <direct@adobesysterms.com>
Here’s a copy of the bogus email:

We see so much spam, it actually gets rather boring after awhile. That’s why we sincerely appreciate spam that’s unusual or especially clever.
This spoofed Ebay Phishing Fraud email certainly fits the bill of interesting and very effective spam:
Subject: Message from eBay Member Regarding Item #
From: eBay <aw-notice@eby.com>
In the actual spam email, the item number is usually from an actual Ebay auction and the question certainly sounds plausible. We’ve seen many variations, but here’s a common example:
Hi , i`m from London and i want to ask you the buy it now price with delivery included ? Do you accept paypal ? Thanks!
