Customers of Amarillo National Bank beware. There’s a new phishing campaign targeted at you. So far all of the examples we’ve seen have the same subject:
Subject: notification
And one of two slightly different from addresses:
From: “Amarillo National bank.”<anb@anb.com>
From: “Amarillo National .Bank.”<file3881001@anb.com>
Neither of which look very much like something a real bank would send.
There are also two variations of the message contents.
Dear Customer,
We requested information from you for the following reason: We have observed activity in this account that is unusual or potentially high risk.
Please download the form attached to this email and open it in a web browser.Thank you,
anb.com
Or
We detected irregular activity on your account on 14/07/2010
For your protection, please download attachment file and complete the form.
Thank you,
anb.com
In both cases the message has an HTML attachment the name of which corresponds to the from address as follows:
anb.html
file3881001.htm
The attachment contains just enough HTML to load a page from a remote server (not www.anb.com) which contains a form that wants you to “confirm that you are the rightful owner of this account”.

The form page looks like the screen capture above and requests the following information:
- Full Name
- Credit/Debit Card Number
- Card Expiration Date
- Card Verification Number
- Card PIN Number
In other words everything the phisher would need to clean out your Amarillo National Bank account.
Always remember: If you receive an email asking for this kind of sensitive information look up the number of the institution that appears to be requesting the information (preferably on a statement or other official mailing) and ask them if they really sent it. Or you can search the web like you did when you found this page:)
