Facebook “updated account agreement” Virus

This week’s virus attack (and they do seem to change weekly now) pretends to come from the “Facebook Team” using an address at your own domain, no doubt in an attempt to get past simplistic email filters.

So far, all of the email share the same Subject line:

Subject:      updated account agreement

And the body of the message has also been very consistent:

Dear Facebook user,

Due to Facebook policy changes, all Facebook users must submit a new, updated account agreement, regardless of their original account start date.
Accounts that do not submit the updated account agreement by the deadline will have restricted.

Please unzip the attached file and run “agreement.exe” by double-clicking it.

Thanks,
The Facebook Team

As is quite common now, the virus attachment comes in two files, one an executable and one a ZIP compressed file containing the same virus code. The naming convention of this campaign has been:

  • agreement.exe
  • agreement.zip

These are viruses, but do require a human to launch them in order to infect the machine, so simply deleting these emails is all that’s required (if they do, in fact, make it past whatever you’re using to filter your email).
